Our Medical Director

David F. Silver, MD

Dr. Silver, a native of Harrisburg, PA, left St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem to start The Women’s Institute for Gynecologic Cancer and Special Pelvic Surgery in Phillipsburg, NJ in May of 2010. Dr. Silver graduated from Jefferson Medical School in 1992 and completed his formal training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Union Memorial Hospital of Baltimore. After finishing a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY, he began his busy clinical and academic career. His career has taken him to many esteemed institutions; he has served as faculty at Yale University School of Medicine, Thomas Jefferson Medical School and University of Nevada School of Medicine. Furthermore, he served as the Division Director of Gynecologic Oncology and faculty at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

Dr. Silver prides himself on providing the highest level of clinical care to his patients, and he is committed to being available to his patients and their referring physicians around the clock. Because of this dedication, he was found to be the busiest gynecologic oncologist in the Eastern Pennsylvania region by a Medicare audit in 2009.

Throughout his training and career, Dr. Silver has surrounded himself with world-renown mentors and colleagues such as Clifford R. Wheeless, MD, M. Steven Piver, MD, and Nicola M. Spirtos, MD, who have had an enormous impact on his treatment of gynecologic cancer patients. In 2000 he took a short sabbatical to work with Dr. Michael Hoekel, a noted gynecologic oncologist in Liepzig, Germany. (Dr. Hoekel pioneered a radical cancer procedure for women with recurrent pelvic malignancies.) During this time he also trained with Dr. Hoenfellner, a urologist from Maintz, Germany who developed a reconstructive procedure which is used in selected gynecologic cancer patients. These are two of many unique procedures Dr. Silver has to offer selected patients in his practice.

His passion for the care of patients with gynecologic cancers and complex gynecologic conditions has drawn him to continue to be involved in clinical research and education to improve upon known therapies and increase global awareness of these diseases. He presents at national and international meetings in gynecologic oncology and continues to contribute publications to the medical literature. In addition to starting The Women’s Institute, Dr. Silver founded the Up the Volume Foundation, a charitable organization with the primary mission of improve the length and quality of the lives of women with gynecologic cancers globally.

His enthusiasm, dedication, and passion for the care of women set him apart from others in his field.
