Bethlehem, PA (4/11/2014) -- To celebrate its 21st Annual Spring Concert, the St. Luke's Singers will perform This is My Song on Sunday, May 18.

An instrumental and organ prelude will begin at 2:45 pm, with the concert commencing at 3 pm.  The concert will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, 2344 Center Street, Bethlehem, PA.

Included in the concert are choral selections from both classical sacred and contemporary sacred repertoires.  A special feature of the concert includes selections based on poetry by Walt Whitman and Robert Frost, as well as music from opera and standards of the 40's and 50's.  Accompanists include Romaine Laury on piano and Brian Snyder on organ, trumpets, trombones, bass, drums and woodwinds.

The choir is newly directed by Nancy Shumaker. Shumaker is a retiree of Bethlehem Area School District Music Teacher/Choir Director and continues to direct several local choirs and theater groups.

The St. Luke's Singers are the only hospital-based choir in Eastern Pennsylvania and annually perform a winter holiday and spring concert.  Since its founding in 1991, membership has increased from 33 to 60-plus members.  The choir is comprised of St. Luke's physicians, nurses and other employees as well as volunteers from as many as fourteen Lehigh Valley communities.  The primary mission of the St. Luke's Singers is to raise funds to help support projects and services at St. Luke's for the benefit of patients in need of treatment and care.  The St. Luke's Singers have raised more than $243,110 as of December, 2013 for various St. Luke's recipients.

Proceeds from the shows this year will benefit the St. Luke’s Cancer Center's Hope and Healing Series.  Tickets may be obtained by calling 610-759-6325 or purchased in the gift shops at St. Luke's University Hospital - Bethlehem, Allentown, Anderson or Warren Campuses.
