St. Luke’s Cancer Survivors came together St. Luke’s STRONG Saturday evening, May 17, at the Lehigh Valley Zoo in Schnecksville for a private event to celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day.  St. Luke’s has been hosting Cancer Survivors Day events annually for the past nine years. St. Luke’s cancer survivors, health care professionals, family members and friends were on hand to unite and show that life after a cancer diagnosis can be meaningful and productive.

St. Luke’s guests were treated to the Healing Rhythms program with the Cancer Support Community of the Greater Lehigh Valley, zoo tours, educational reptile programs, goat feeding, cancer updates with St. Luke’s Cancer experts, Loony Tunes DJ entertainment, face painting and strolling with Bumper “T” Caring Clowns, a Sodexo pasta party, beverages courtesy of Pepsi Beverages Company of Allentown, and more.

Events like this provide an opportunity for all people living with a history of cancer to connect with each other, celebrate milestones and recognize the healthcare providers, family and friends who have supported them along the way. According to the American Association for Cancer Research, there were approximately 13.7 million cancer survivors in the United States alone in January 2012. That number is expected to rise to 18 million by 2022.
