Bethlehem, PA (10/28/13) - In celebration of Veterans Day and National Hospice month, St. Luke's Hospice and Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc. present 'We Honor Veterans' – a special program on coming to the end of life.

“I am excited and honored to be bringing Deborah Grassman, a nationally recognized nurse and author, to the Lehigh Valley for this special event,” shares Rev. Anne G. Huey, Spiritual Services Manager, St. Luke's Hospice. “Her work at Bay Pines VA Medical Center inspired her, grounded her work and opened her awareness to what veterans have to teach us all about coming to the end of life.”

Deborah Grassman was a Nurse Practitioner at Bay Pines VA Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida for nearly 30 years where she was the Director of the Hospice program. She identified the unique needs of veterans as each faces the end of life. Deborah provides education and consultation throughout the country about the special needs of veterans during aging and end of life.

This inspirational event is open to the public and consists of four interactive workshops. The workshops explore issues of forgiveness, understanding how veterans, and others who have experienced trauma, come to the end of life, and how we can create spaces of comfort and safety in which Veterans may explore the stories that shape their lives and history. Additionally, Registered Nurses, Social Workers and Family Therapists will be granted CE hours upon completing the program. An application has been filed to the Pennsylvania Board of Funeral Directors, as well.
