Bethlehem, PA (May 20, 2011) - The application for inauguration of a Cardiology Fellowship Program at St. Luke's Hospital & Health Network was submitted in March 2011 and has now been approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

The new three-year clinical program will start in July 2011 and initially will enroll two fellows per year of training. The fellowship director is Jamshid Shirani, MD. This new program is designed to complement the existing residency training programs and the Temple-St. Luke's Medical School in providing a high level of clinical training and exposure in the field of cardiovascular disease.

“Our goal is to provide quality training with the hope to further improve the already high quality care offered to the population served by the St. Luke's Hospital & Health Network,” says Dr. Shirani. The new program will be supported by the state-of-the-art clinical facilities including a Level I Trauma Center, emergency department with chest pain accreditation, diagnostic imaging equipment as well as fellowship-trained cardiology, vascular surgery and cardiothoracic surgery physician faculty.
