Community Needs Assessment Data
The Patient Care and Affordable Care Act of 2010 requires all nonprofit hospitals to conduct a needs assessment of their local communities and develop a strategic plan to meet the priority needs every three years. St. Luke's University Health Network has a long history of promoting community health, and has actively partnered with the community to complete a comprehensive needs assessment and strategic plan for the Lehigh Valley area.
St. Luke's University Health Network commissioned the Lehigh Valley Research Consortium (LVRC) to conduct a comprehensive needs assessment of the Network's service areas during 2011-12. The needs assessment included three separate data collection strategies:
1. A random survey of Lehigh Valley and surrounding service area households
2. An analysis of existing community health measures and secondary data
3. Focus groups conducted by LVRC with key community leaders in areas throughout the Network
These reports are included here for use by professionals and community members interested in learning more about the health status of our local community.
Comprehensive Community Health Assessment
In addition to the LVRC assessment commissioned by our Bethlehem-based entity, St. Luke's University Health Network is collaborating with three other non-profit hospitals in the Lehigh Valley and The Dorothy Rider Pool Health Care Trust to conduct a comprehensive community health assessment. Also, the Community Forums referenced on page 23 of the report will be held at the Northampton Community College Fowler Center (511 E. Third St Bethlehem) from 7-9 pm on November 28 and at the Salvation Army (144 N. 8th St, Allentown) from 7-9 pm on November 29.
We, as part of the Health Care Council of the Lehigh Valley, will be seeking your thoughts and ideas about improving the overall health of the Lehigh Valley. Comments about the Community Health Profile can be sent to the Health Care Council at email@example.com.
