Warren Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital & Health Network affiliate on women’s services
September — Warren Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital and Health Network are pleased to announce that they have come together to undertake an affiliation to enhance women’s services to the residents of the greater Phillipsburg area. “I am pleased that we have joined efforts to enhance the services available to meet the needs of women throughout our community,” Warren's President and CEO, Thomas Litz said.
As part of this affiliation, Howard K. Horne, M.D. will lead gynecology services as the Chief of Women’s Services at Warren Hospital. He will open a practice in Phillipsburg, providing on-call coverage to the Hospital's emergency room, and potentially expanding the practice within three to six months by adding a certified nurse midwife. Dr. Horne stated, “As the practice grows, my future plans include recruiting an additional OB/GYN physician within two years. I am pleased to be able to locate in Phillipsburg and become a part of the medical community.”
Dr. Horne will perform gynecological surgeries and other procedures at Warren Hospital. When necessary, St. Luke’s will provide backup for services not available locally, and will accept all transfers from Warren Hospital for gynecological services, regardless of the patient’s ability to pay.
“It’s fair to say that for many years St. Luke’s and Warren Hospital have had an abiding common interest in the women’s health concerns of the western New Jersey region. This population’s proximity to the Lehigh Valley, and our capabilities together, make this a most appropriate and deserving goal for the future,” noted Dr. Joseph Merola, Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology for St. Luke's Hospital & Health Network.
Over the coming years, as Warren Hospital and St. Luke’s Health Network work together to provide gynecology services for the greater Phillipsburg area, they will look at the feasibility of expanding to provide a full range of women’s services.
